The day started in Fort William at our hotel on the loch. We were able to watch this boat go by and use the locks, very interesting and great to watch. And look at that sunshine! We brought raincoats but didn't need them today.
This was one of my favorite lochs of the day, Loch Lochy. Long and narrow, surrounded by green hills (mountains). There's one lone boat in this picture. I wonder if it is always this calm on all the lochs we saw, or was it just a lucky day.
Our next stop was Eilean Donan castle. This is another James Bond movie set from the World is Not Enough when it is set as the MI6 headquarters.
Here's John with a bagpiper near the castle. (Side note- a couple of times on this trip, John has shown an interest in playing bagpipes. The gift shops have some junior bagpipes. As much as we want John to pursue his interests, we are gently steering him towards other souvenirs)
Back in the car, Abby was filling out her kid book from the castle tour, and both her and John made our family shields:
We then continued to head North to the Isle of Skye, over a bridge and into this part of the highlands. If we had more time, it would have been great to explore this island further, but we did have a picnic lunch at this beautiful spot:
Back in the car, we head towards Loch Ness. Here's Abby trying to spot Nessie from the car:
More pics of beautiful scenery:
We ended the day reaching our hotel in Inverness. After a stroll around the town, we ended up at this place for dinner, and it was amazing:
And a couple more pics around Inverness:
